Solo Dancers – Can They Save Square Dancing? |
Program Description: |
Almost from its inception, square dancing has been considered a “couples”
activity. But times change and so do our dancers – from those entering the activity
as youth or singles, to those who have lost their significant others, more and more
single dancers are gracing the dance floor. But have we made them welcome to our
activity? Are they the group who will save our activity with their growing numbers?
Our presenter has some wonderful insight and ideas to share on how we can
embrace this growing group of dancers.
Pamphlets and brochures, our monthly webinar series and so much more are available on our website,
www.USDA.org. This webinar will give you a quick overview of all that USDA has to offer. |

Ri-Shea Schlitter and her husband Christopher have been dancing and calling for
a number of years, and Solo dance communities are a big part of their experience.
She is the Vice-Chair of the CALLERLAB Partner Committee. She was instrumental
in developing the CALLERLAB Handbook "Creating a Welcoming Dance
Environment" and was a panelist for a Convention session of the same name. Last
year, she led a Birds of a Feather session on Solo Dancers, and today’s talk is an
offshoot of that session. She was the editor of the CALLERLAB Partner Resource
document that was released last year. The Partner Resource document includes a
section on Solo Dancing.
